Greek and Turkish Ministers Meet in Athens to Strengthen Security Cooperation

by admin477351

Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci met in Athens to discuss enhancing security cooperation between Greece and Türkiye. The talks, which took place at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection, aimed at tackling cross-border crime, including organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling.

The meeting followed the Greece–Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council meeting in Ankara earlier this year. Both ministers emphasized the need for improved information sharing and operational coordination between their countries’ security agencies. Chrysochoidis highlighted concerns about Turkish nationals allegedly involved with criminal groups in Greece, underlining the importance of addressing these issues through close cooperation.

Ciftci expressed appreciation for the current level of collaboration and supported the expansion of joint efforts to combat criminal networks, especially those involved in human trafficking. The discussions also covered strategies to counteract money laundering linked to illegal activities.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts by Greece and Türkiye to strengthen their partnership in addressing shared security challenges, despite the historical differences between the two nations. Both sides appear committed to fostering a cooperative environment to combat crime and enhance regional security.
