Hungarian President András Baka has raised concerns about a “crisis of trust” facing the United Nations, urging the organization to apply international law equally to all nations. In his address to the UN General Assembly in New York, Baka emphasized that no country should be exempt from international law, stressing the importance of the UN’s ability to act with fairness and consistency in enforcing its principles.
President Baka specifically addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, condemning Russia’s actions as a violation of the UN Charter. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and advocated for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. Baka asserted that any peace agreement must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty to be sustainable.
In addition to his remarks on Ukraine, Baka highlighted the need for full compliance with international humanitarian law in the Middle East and called for the safe and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the region. He also addressed migration issues, stating that Hungary would continue to oppose irregular migration while upholding human dignity and the rights of refugees.
