Greece maintained its lead in the Nations League group after a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in Thessaloniki on Thursday. Greece took control in the first half, establishing a 2-0 lead. Fotis Ioannidis scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute, assisted by a header from Giorgos Masouras.
Masouras further extended Greece’s advantage during first-half stoppage time, capitalizing on a mistake by the Dutch defense after Ioannidis intercepted a poor backpass, enabling Masouras to score from close range.
However, the Netherlands made a strong comeback in the second half. Virgil van Dijk narrowed the gap in the 59th minute with a header from a Joey Veerman corner. Despite a crucial save by Greek goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis later in the match, the Netherlands managed to secure an equalizer in the 89th minute, with Tijjani Reijnders finishing from close range.
The result leaves Greece at the top of the group with seven points, two points ahead of the Netherlands. Greece is set to face Germany in their next match on Sunday.
