by admin477351

Germany is exploring a collaboration with Greece on a future submarine construction initiative, focusing on the advanced Type 212 CD submarines. This potential partnership was discussed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, during a meeting at the Crete Firing Range. Pistorius emphasized Greece’s status as a reliable partner and suggested that the submarine construction could occur within Greece.

The Hellenic Navy’s submarine program is anticipated to be considered post-2030, with vessel selection discussions expected to commence after Greece’s national elections in 2027. The dialogue reflects a broader effort to enhance defense cooperation between the two nations, which includes joint military training, operational coordination, and the acquisition of compatible military equipment.

Dendias underscored Greece’s dedication to strengthening defense ties with Germany, noting plans for joint military training and improved coordination. Additionally, the ministers discussed ongoing cooperation involving Greek and German forces in the Kosovo Force (KFOR), pilot training initiatives in Kalamata, and Greece’s interest in acquiring IRIS-T SLS air defense missiles.

This meeting highlights the mutual interest of Greece and Germany in expanding their defense collaboration, particularly through opportunities for joint military production and training. The discussions indicate both countries’ commitment to exploring new avenues for enhancing their strategic partnership in defense capabilities.
