Spotify Tags AI Artists, Excludes Them From Recommendations

by admin477351

Spotify is taking steps to address the rise of AI-generated music by implementing new measures designed to help users distinguish between real artists and artificial personas. Starting in September, the streaming platform will label AI-created artist identities with an “AI persona” tag on both artist profiles and track listings. This initiative aims to ensure that listeners can easily identify whether they are engaging with genuine musicians or computer-generated acts.

In a bid to protect authentic musicians and their exposure, Spotify will exclude AI personas from its personalized recommendation algorithms by default. This approach is part of the company’s broader effort to manage the increasing influx of AI-generated content on its platform. Spotify emphasizes the importance of transparency, as the use of generative AI in music continues to expand rapidly, and consumers seek clarity about the origins of the music they enjoy.

Spotify will also introduce a system that allows artists to voluntarily disclose if their identities are AI-generated. However, to maintain integrity, the company will deploy human reviewers alongside AI-powered tools to identify any undisclosed AI personas. This dual approach is intended to ensure that the platform remains a space where users can trust the authenticity of the content they encounter.

The decision to implement these changes comes as Spotify grapples with the proliferation of AI-generated tracks. The company previously reported that it had removed 75 million spam tracks within a single year, underscoring the challenge of managing artificial and low-quality content that infiltrates music platforms. By introducing these new measures, Spotify seeks to uphold the quality and authenticity of its vast music library while fostering an environment where genuine artists can thrive.
