In a significant diplomatic development, Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder has undertaken a pivotal visit to Budapest to engage in high-level discussions with Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar. This meeting signifies the renewal of top-tier political relations between Bavaria and Hungary, a relationship that had seen an eight-year lull. The talks culminated in an agreement to form a joint intergovernmental commission aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors, such as trade, artificial intelligence, innovation, pharmaceuticals, defence, and higher education.
During the meeting, both leaders underscored the necessity of bolstering Europe’s competitiveness in the global arena. A prominent topic of discussion was the reconsideration of the planned phase-out of internal combustion engines, indicating a shared interest in balancing environmental objectives with economic and industrial realities.
