Lidl Hungary has inaugurated its largest warehouse in the country with a new logistics center situated in Kiskunfélegyháza, backed by an investment close to 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This state-of-the-art facility is set to enhance the company’s supply chain by serving around 70 stores across Hungary.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, this logistics hub brings significant employment opportunities, having already generated over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees shortly. The center is equipped with 194 loading docks and includes a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, emphasizing its capacity and efficiency.
The facility is not only vast but also environmentally conscious, boasting a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar panel installation and an innovative system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating. Furthermore, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green space has been cultivated around the site, underscoring Lidl’s commitment to sustainability.
With an expected output of around 4,500 pallets of goods each day, the center plays a crucial role in bolstering Lidl’s national distribution network. This development aligns with Lidl’s growth strategy in Hungary, where it currently operates 220 stores and sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers.
As Lidl continues to expand its footprint in Hungary, the new logistics center is anticipated to significantly support its operations and further solidify its presence in the domestic market, contributing to both economic growth and job creation in the region.
